Workshop - Natural Dyeing (Bundle Dye)
Come and spend two and half hours with us (Claire & Stephy) as we explore the different dye flowers and plants we grow here on our farm. In the studio it’s time to have a go at a simple, but extremely effective, technique that we use to extract the colour - bundle dyeing.
The day will start with a short introduction to our dye farm, our work and a brief overview of natural dyeing. We’ll talk you through how to prepare the textile to ensure the colour forms a strong bond with it - an important step for any natural dyer.
We’ll have time for a short tour of the flower patch where we’ll collect some flowers and bring them back to the studio to include in some of our experimenting. Tea/coffee and cake will be provided.
You’ll leave at the end of the session with samples of the colours the different dye plants create and also a beautiful pair of linen napkins (or a silk neckerchief scarf 50x50cm approx) that you’ve made yourself from the bundle dye technique.
The ground in the flower patch can be uneven so please wear flat, suitable footwear. If it’s a wet day, please bring wellies or waterproof shoes as the ground may be muddy.
