Frequently asked questions

 What textiles do you use?

We have completed many hours of research to ensure we chose the best textiles with the least impact on the environment. Our reputable silk supplier here in the UK has spent many years building relationships with the factory in China where they purchase the finest silk. The Factory is Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), Ecology and social responsibility certified.

All our textiles are GOTS certified. A GOTS certification means that the fabric contains at least 70% organic natural fibres; it is not treated with bleach, formaldehyde or other toxic substances; it is coloured with non-toxic dyes, and is produced according to strict social and environmental standards.

How do you create natural colours?

Using only natural sources, we are able to extract beautiful colours from flowers, such as marigolds, roots of plants such as madder and of course leaves from beautiful plants like indigo and eucalpytpus that we grow on our farm near Bristol. When we need to buy in any dried pigments we only source from our trusted UK suppliers. One exception to that is for our hot pinks. For that we use a dried insect called cochineal, this small insect is grown organically in the canary islands on a family farm.

What can we expect from natural colours?

At studioEVIG, we only use natural materials to create our colourful collection. Nature is perfectly imperfect; this means that when dyeing with raw materials, variations in colour or markings from the plants is always possible in the dyeing process. We believe this is what makes the products unique. Please be aware that each batch we create to replicate our specific colour can have very small differences in colours. Therefore, if you want multiple ribbons of the exact same colour for a specific wedding / event / project please try and buy them at the same time. Some colours are limited edition due to experimental dyeing so be quick to grab them while they last!

How do I care for my textiles?

Ideally, please hand-wash only using a PH neutral soap or maximum 30 degrees wash (again with PH neutral soap).

Keep out of direct sunlight - as with all coloured dyes they can fade in direct sunlight.

What makes your studioEVIG product unique?

At studioEVIG, we take great pride in providing products that are not only one-of-a-kind but are also kind to the earth and the people who make them. Crafted with the finest quality materials in a labor-intensive process that results in a product of superior quality and durability– meant to be cherished for years to come.

What is the size of your silk/bamboo silk ribbons?

All our ribbons come as 5cm wide and 2 metres long as standard. If you require a different size, please drop us an email hello@studioevig.com and we’ll try our best to help.

Are the colours colourfast?

All dyed products, if exposed continually to direct sunlight will fade slightly, some more than others. We choose dye plants that are as colourfast as possible and we carry out numerous colourfast tests on our designs to ensure the highest quality. However, they are a natural product and can fade, or transfer colour to other textiles if exposed to heat or moisture.

Do the colours on the website accurately represent the textiles?

We take the utmost care in capturing our colours accurately in a photograph, but the subtle nuances can often only be experienced in person. Also, please be aware that colour batches can vary by season, and not all colours can be represented accurately on all computer screens. If you have a question about colour, need further clarification on the colour tone, or need a colour recommendation, feel free to contact us with your questions or order one of our sample cards.
